In August, the U18 Tennis Academy pupils successfully defended their National Schools Title.
University and Leaver Destinations
Merchiston is pleased to be supporting an amazing challenge being undertaken by a former pupil.
Wherever your son’s ambitions, we will prepare him for the next stage.
His personal best may be Oxford or Cambridge, it might be a course specific to his chosen career or something else altogether. It doesn’t matter. What matters is that he has achieved it. That is the yardstick against which we measure ourselves.
The data speaks for itself, each year approximately:
- 95% of leavers enter the university of their choice
- 70% succeed in securing a place at UK Russell Group universities or leading international institutions
- The average Merchiston Upper Sixth pupil’s UCAS points tally is 141 (as a guide, AAA at A Level is 144 points and AAB is 136 points).
Universities in the USA continue to be popular, with up to 10% of pupils now expressing an interest. Some are out-and-out academics and others are outstanding sportsmen. Recent successes have included Amherst, Columbia, Cornell and Brown on the academic front, with our outstanding sportsmen winning scholarships to Texas Christian University (top 5 for tennis in the USA –an amazing achievement) and Gonzaga, Washington State.
If this route appeals to your son he will receive support with his preparations, including specialist SAT/ACT classes.
We are enormously proud of our son and all that he has achieved – and been given the chance to achieve – whilst at Merchiston. His time here has been the making of him and we feel he could not have been better prepared for the next stage of his journey.
...none of what I had achieved would have been possible without the amazing people at Merchiston, who helped and encouraged me not just to work hard, but also to enjoy every aspect of life. In essence, Merchiston was more than just a school to me; it was a community of which I was part, a place where I was very happy, and where I developed into the person I am today.
Merchiston succeeds in stimulating, challenging and inspiring boys to achieve their potential and readies them for an ever changing and increasingly complex world.
